The activities, after all, are human activities, so they reflect the possible range of actions, of conditions under which people are able to function, and the constraints of real people. To Engineer Is Human: The Role of Failure in Successful Design by Henry Petroski. This book explains how engineering design (usually using civil or structural engineering examples) evolves. One of my favourite authors is Henry Petroski, whose book To Engineer is Human - The Role of Failure in Successful Design led me to read anything he publishes. A really good book that changed my view on the subject was “To Engineer Is Human: The Role of Failure in Successful Design” by Henry Petroski. As Henry Petroski writes in To Engineer Is Human: The Role of Failure in Successful Design, we learn more from our failures than our successes. -To Engineer Is Human: The Role of Failure in Successful Design (by Henry Petroski). There is an interesting book titled To Engineer Is Human, subtitled The Role of Failure in Successful Design, by Henry Petroski. But I have not lost my interest in engineering. The moral of this book is that behind every great engineering success is a trail of often ignored (but frequently spectacular) engineering failures. The subtitle of his book is the role failure in successful design. To Engineer Is Human: The Role of Failure in Successful Design. Why are you starving when you might be eating? People all over the world learn to drive quite successfully with roughly the same configuration of controls. Human-Centered Design has become such a dominant theme in design that it is now accepted by interface and application designers automatically, without thought, let alone criticism. A professor both of civil engineering and history at Duke University, he is also a prolific author. Petroski has written more than a handful of books on engineering and picking up any one of his would qualify for a must-read. In addition to The Essential Engineer, published in 2010, Petroski has written a dozen other books. As Petroski, in another nice little book on the subject argues, to engineer is human.
